Migropolis is two things in one: A survey on the global city using the urban territory of Venice as an exemplary paradigm that makes it possible to anticipate urban escalations to come. And: An experimental investigation of the means and measures of the spectacle to find out if visual media allow an understanding of society.

Migropolis is a book consisting of two volumes, a series of exhibitions and this webpage as a tool that will continuously be updated.

Prizes

03.12.09 | Migropolis has won the prize from the German Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation) in its annual awards for the most beautiful books of the year. It is the most prestigious and honest award to be won by a book in Germany. No prize commands greater respect and esteem. For the 2009 awards, 440 publishers submitted 1,035 books from the some 80,000 published this year in Germany. Migropolis was selected by two different juries of renowned masters of the craft as one of the six winning titles in its specific category and one of the eight absolute winners in the jury's personal choice. This seems especially remarkable because Migropolis was about content and an appropriate form anchored in necessity not in style.
